Who We Are

About MCDA-USA

Mmen Cultural and Development Association–USA (MCDA-USA) brings together Mmen sons, daughters, and friends living across the United States. As an apolitical, nonprofit association, we are committed to the holistic development of Mmen village—our home, our heritage, and our responsibility.

Our mission is to support the community by improving access to education, health care, clean water, electricity, infrastructure, and communication. We also promote sustainable development efforts that reduce poverty and strengthen livelihoods.

MCDA-USA works hand in hand with MCDA Cameroon, the main body, and with our beloved village of Bafmeng, ensuring that our collective efforts lead to lasting progress and opportunities for all.

Background Information

Mmen

Mmen is a landlocked village that remains extremely difficult to access, whether by road or by any other means of transportation. It is tragically known as one of the communities most affected by the Lake Nyos disaster of August 29, 1986, during which Mmen suffered the highest loss of human and animal life, as well as devastating destruction of cash crops and livelihoods. Humanitarian assistance to the survivors was slow to reach the village, deepening the impact of the tragedy.

Located in the Fungom administrative sub-division, whose headquarters is Zoa, Mmen lies within the Menchum Division of the North West Region of Cameroon, West Africa. Despite being the most populated village in the Fungom area, it unfortunately remains one of the least developed communities in the country.
